Wally Armstrong, the former PGA Tour golfer, recently visited our links and kindly treated members to a coaching clinic.
The 74-year-old American has a fine pedigree in the sport, having played on the PGA Tour from 1974 to 1984. Wally also competed in all four Major championships and enjoyed his best finish when he claimed a tie for fifth place at the 1978 Masters at Augusta.
His 280 total in 1978 was a record low for a first-time Masters participant, with the Green Jacket that year going to Gary Player.
Wally was visiting from Florida and now concentrates on teaching. He was kind enough to do a session with our junior members for about an hour, followed by a clinic on the 1st tee for adult members (around 25 attended). He then entertained members with stories of his life on Tour for a further half-and-hour, so we thank Wally greatly for his time.
Wally also played a few Nike Tour and Senior PGA Tour events in 1995 and 1996.
